I actually have an answer about the children in sailor suits question! Queen Victoria had one made for her son when they went sailing and he supposedly loved it and wanted to wear it all the time, so Prince Albert had a portrait of Bertie in his sailor suit made for Queen Victoria as a present…. So the public sees this portrait and starts dressing their children in sailor suits to emulate the royals, and it’s just kind of stuck.
